You are the person guests remember. Evergreen Thai is a 19-year downtown Thai restaurant and bar with a steady lunch crowd from the hospitals, City Hall, and the offices nearby, a busy dinner trade, and group tables most evenings. We are hiring servers who are warm with guests, calm when the room fills, and accurate with orders.

What you will do

Greet and seat guests, take dine-in and phone takeout orders, and enter them accurately in the POS
Explain the menu, spice levels, and dishes with confidence, including vegetarian, vegan, dairy-free, and allergy questions
Serve food, beer, wine, and cocktails to the table and keep water, sauces, and clearing on pace
Handle bills, split payments, and tip-outs cleanly; close tables without making guests wait
Pack and check takeout and catering pickup orders so nothing leaves the restaurant incomplete
Look after group tables of 8 to 20: confirm the order, coordinate timing with the kitchen, and keep the table moving
Set up, reset, and close the dining room and bar station; follow food safety and cleaning routines

What we are looking for

Smart Serve certificate (Ontario) before your first shift; we can tell you how to get it if you do not have it yet
Legally able to work in Canada (citizen, permanent resident, or valid work permit)
At least one year of serving experience in a sit-down restaurant is preferred; strong hospitality attitude matters more than years
Clear spoken English; Mandarin, Cantonese, or Thai is an asset with our downtown guests
Available for at least two weekend shifts per week and some evenings
Comfortable on your feet for a full shift and carrying trays

A dedicated, detail-oriented cook to join the kitchen team. Wok and stir-fry skills are an asset but not required; we train the Thai menu.

What you will do

Prepare and cook dishes to recipe and menu standard
Cook with a small pan; wok and stir-fry experience is an asset
Help with prep: chopping, slicing, marinating
Follow food handling, health and safety, and storage rules to keep food fresh and cut waste
Keep the station clean and organized and support fast service at peak

Restaurant or food service experience preferred
Comfortable in a fast-paced kitchen, good teamwork and communication
Mandarin communication is a strong asset
Legally able to work in Canada

What a shift at Evergreen Thai looks like.

Lunch

Doors open at 11am. The first hour is hospital staff, City Hall, and office teams from University Ave and Bay Street who want to be back at their desk in 45 minutes. Speed and accuracy matter more than anything else, and takeout and catering pickups run alongside the tables.

Dinner

From 5pm the room turns over to couples, families, visitors from the hotels, and group tables of 8 to 20 celebrating something. Dinner is about reading the table, recommending well, and keeping drinks moving from the bar. Sunday we open at 3pm.

Do I need Smart Serve to apply for the server job?

You need it before your first shift, not before you apply. Smart Serve is Ontario's responsible alcohol service certificate. The online course and test take a few hours and cost about CAD 35. Tell us in your application if you already have it or plan to get it.

Is the server position full-time or part-time?

Both. We schedule a mix of full-time servers and part-time servers who cover weekend and evening peaks. Say which you want and which days you can work, and we will tell you honestly whether it fits the current rota.

How much do servers earn at Evergreen Thai?

CA$17.60 to CA$20.00 per hour depending on experience, plus tips shared with the team on shift. Full-time servers typically work 30 to 40 hours a week; part-time servers cover weekend and evening peaks. Ask us anything about pay in the interview; we would rather be clear up front.

Can students at TMU or UofT work here?

Yes. The restaurant is a short walk from both campuses and we build the schedule around class timetables for part-time servers. Weekend availability is the main thing we need from student applicants.
